They're home!.....sort of

In September, Dave and Pauline finished their three year long calling in Peru where Dave served as the mission president. But before coming home, actually in May, they were issued another call to serve by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf over the phone, because they couldn't get a conference call to work over the computer. (In Peru? Shocking!) This will be another three year mission for them, this time though, as the temple president and matron of the Medford, OR temple. So they got to come home and settle in for a few months and then began their second mission the first week of November.

They were set apart on Oct 13th by Elder Elder L. Tom Perry. After being set apart they attended a three day training session along with the other temple presidents being set apart at that time. There are 153, I think, temples in operation or planned, and they replace approx a third every year, so there were 53 new temple presidents at the training. During those three days they were privileged to spend much of that time in the company of all the General Authorities. They did a session in the SLC temple and had a tour of the whole temple. They even met in the solemn assembly room in the Salt Lake temple and entered the small room adjoined to it where James E. Talmage wrote Jesus the Christ. The dictionary he used while writing the book is still located in that room. They also ate dinner with the Apostles and their wives and Pauline mentioned that at dinner she was dismayed to see her name card was right next to Elder Bednar. Feeling a tad nervous about this she asked Dave to trade her places and he kindly answered, "No way!" Another unique experience about that dinner was that Pauline said she made Elder Oaks and his wife of about five year (he actually introduced her to them as his new wife) cry with stories of their twin grandsons, one of which served their mission under Dave in Peru.

We're very proud of them and excited that they will be closer.
